Designing a Trustworthy UX for a Lottery Platform | Pooling Numbers
Overview
Pooling Numbers is an online lottery courier service that allows users to purchase lottery tickets digitally. I worked as the solo product designer, collaborating with the CTO and handing off designs to offshore engineers. The product is desktop-focused and has since shipped.
The Challenge
Create a trustworthy and streamlined experience for users to browse, purchase, and manage lottery tickets online — an industry where credibility and usability are critical.
Outcome
Final product launched and live in-market
Designs implemented closely to spec despite offshore development constraints
Positive early feedback from internal stakeholders
My Approach
Defined IA and user flows from scratch
Designed high-fidelity wireframes and UI
Worked directly with the CTO and engineers to ensure dev feasibility
Led usability reviews internally
Key Design Decisions
Trust-first UI: Built credibility through clean UI, clear pricing, and visual consistency — crucial for a product involving money and gambling.
Simplified ticket purchasing: Reduced the steps to checkout by 40% through modular flow design and upfront info clarity.
Dashboard UX: Created a user dashboard to view past purchases, winnings, and remaining balances in one glance, promoting transparency and return use.
Results & What's Next
Desktop app shipped with designs largely intact, enabling real-money lottery ticket purchases via a clear, trustworthy flow.
Internal teams praised the user-friendly dashboard and simplified checkout process.
Future improvements may include mobile optimization, better onboarding, and gamified account tracking (e.g. recent wins, streaks).
